Amaya Beach Resort in Passikudah...What a beautiful place to be! Total relaxation! We all enjoyed a few days off from excursions and road trips and just played on the playa! Grandma and the boys had to stay in a room that was on the other side of the hallway from us, and although I was a bit upset, the boys just loved the freedom of being able to walk the hall by themselves to get to our room. Our little monkeys are growing so fast!
One of my favorite memories from this location was meeting some local children on the beach. Ramzi and I were enjoying a stroll along the sand, when I was approached by a beautiful, smiling girl. She was trying to use her limited English to communicate, but her smile got bigger when Ramzi spoke to her in Tamil. She was 10 years old and it was her first family vacation. Her father, brothers and cousins had come to Passikudah for a week from their home town of Jaffna. Jaffna is located in the North and it was the hardest hit by the civil war. She hugged us as we spoke to her, and told us that it was her first time being out of Jaffna, and her first time meeting someone from a different country. She asked if we would take pictures with her and mail them to her home address, as the family didn't have email or text. What a smart, beautiful and social little girl....I hope to keep in touch with her, and pray that life gives her opportunities to shine.
It was here, in Passikudah, that we had long wades in the shallow waters, had long chats at a beachside bar and met many local vacationers. Another favorite stop along the breathtaking coastline of our Island Paradise.
